2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 Long-Term Test. There's a fork in a road in the hills above Malibu we're extremely familiar with. Veer left and the road twists and turns and climbs high into the hills. Go right and there's a small off-road area that's wide, undulating and pleasantly dusty.

We're at that intersection in our new long-term 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 and we're torn as to which route to take. On the one hand we're in a Jeep, so naturally it has the ability to send power to all four wheels. On the other hand, those four wheels measure 20 inches in diameter and they're turned by a 6.4-liter, 470-horsepower Hemi V8.
With a starting price of $54,470 the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the most expensive member of the Jeep lineup.
Part of that has to do with the way the Cherokee SRT8 is equipped. It has standard Brembo brakes, Quadra-Trac all-wheel drive, heated and cooled leather-trimmed microfiber front seats, LED DRLs, hill-start assist, automatic headlights, heated exterior mirrors, keyless entry and start, a power tilt-and-telescoping wheel, 180-mph speedometer, a 6.5-inch touchscreen display with navigation, UConnect, paddle shifters, USB and 20-inch wheels.
At CARiD, we don’t mess around. When it comes to Jeep Custom Tail Lights, we go right to the source. 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Hyundai Motor America CEO John Krafcik confirmed Wednesday that the all-new seven passenger 2013 Santa Fe will replace the Veracruz model.
"The Veracruz is going away," Krafcik told Autoblog. "It ends production around November."
Hyundai debuted the Santa Fe Wednesday at the New York International Auto Show in both five-passenger and seven-passenger configurations.
The seven-passenger Veracruz was a new nameplate for Hyundai when it rolled out in 2007. It never gained much acceptance in the U.S., so Hyundai has found a new way around that problem.
"It's hard to establish a new brand name," Krafcik said. "It can take $50 to $100 million dollars. Santa Fe is a golden nameplate for us, it's a great product, and now it will be much more efficient in my marketing spend."
Indeed. It will also be more efficient producing a five- and seven-passenger Santa Fe than two different vehicles. From the B-pillar forward, there will only be minor differences between the two Santa Fe models.
Furthermore, the new design of the Santa Fe moves it into Hyundai's stylized fluidic design theme, something that has been very successful with the compact Elantra and midsize Sonata. The Veracruz, which still included many of Hyundai's older design elements, just didn't fit in with everything else.
Now, or at least in the coming months, it will be no more.

2013 Ford Fusion

Ford thinks the lighting in the 2013 Ford Fusion, which has abandoned incandescent bulbs completely, will give it a competitive edge.
Research led to "ice blue," which promotes alertness, as the signature color but Fusion drivers can pick from seven colors of interior lighting and choose the intensity as well.
Lighting is part of a sportier interior for the Fusion with higher-quality materials and detail such as matching inserts in the door panel and instrument panel, said Interior Chief Designer Michael Arbaugh.
"Consumers are usually surprised by the variety," Arbaugh said. "I believe it's a competitive advantage."
Gone are incandescent bulbs that for decades were the mainstay of automotive lighting. Today, not only headlights and taillights use light-emitting diodes, but illumination for the instrument panel, cupholders and ambient lighting use LEDs as well.
LEDs are smaller and package better, are more durable, use less energy and the costs are now comparable with those of incandescents.
When Ford first used LEDs in 2002 for the Lincoln Navigator, they cost $1.20 each compared with about 10 cents for an incandescent bulb, said Mahendra Dassanayake, technical leader for Ford design.
Today, an LED is about 30 cents, incandescents have bottomed out at 6-7 cents apiece and companies such as General Electric and Toshiba have shut down their last bulb plants, he said.
While incandescent bulbs have a lifespan of about two years, LEDs will outlive the vehicles they are in, Dassanayake said, translating into savings and reduced warranty costs.
On the Fusion, the interior switches to ice blue, blue, purple, orange, red, white and green.
Until eight years ago, Ford had green as its mainstay color -- using incandescent bulbs and a color filter -- but it was a raw shade of green that was not very friendly, Dassanayake said. Green is part of the new palette, but the LEDs produce a more soothing shade, he said.
The current Explorer and Edge have the blue lighting, but the Fusion is the first vehicle to engineer placement of the LEDs early in development, Arbaugh said. Ford Fusion LED Daytime Running Lights

Mopar Gives Chrysler 200 a Kick in the Ass with Super S kit

Mopar gives Chrysler 200 a kick in the ass with Super S kit
The Chrysler 200 is a fine car, but not exactly the first we'd pick to get our hearts racing. At least not in stock form. But that's where Mopar comes in.
Chrysler's long-standing aftermarket parts division rolled on down to Cobo Hall this year with this modified 200. Called the 200 Super S, it packs a coil-over suspension upgrade and improved breathing apparati, as well as a host of visual enhancements ranging from a mesh grille to faux diffuser, and from 18-inch alloys to spoilers and side sills.
The result is a noticeably more aggressive-looking take on an otherwise rather conventional compact family sedan, and if you like what you see from our live shots from the show floor here at the Detroit Auto Show, you'll soon be able to crack open the latest Mopar catalog.
Chrysler models are recognized for their classy yet performance-driven personas, an identifiable edge this American institution doesn’t plan on relinquishing. Drivers of the brand are often fashion-conscious and style-hungry – a combination known for producing custom excellence.  The latest example? Chrysler Projector Headlights. 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan

2012 Dodge Grand Caravan R/T The interior looks good and feels better, and of course there’s the usual array of infotainment features, including family-peacekeeping options like the second row’s nine-inch video screen with wireless headphones and remote controls. In fact, even though it wears the R/T badge, the man van is actually the new lux leader for the Grand Caravan lineup. And it might just be that a product designation reflecting that status—luxury rather than manliness—would make van men at least as happy, if not more so. Pricing for the 2012 Grand Caravan starts at $23,830; the R/T starts at $30,830. Our man-van sample included a media center ($1360), the Entertainment Group ($795), and the Driver Convenience Group ($795), elevating the as-tested total to $33,780. In the world of minivans, that’s a bargain—consider that only one of the Honda Odyssey’s seven trim levels starts below the R/T’s base price. Your SUV has been waiting to present a different look. 2012 Jeep Patriot

The 2012 Jeep Patriot is one of the most affordable small crossover-SUV models; and it makes good sense for those who merely want a maneuverable, versatile, easy-parking, and affordable vehicle. But as you might expect from a vehicle that carries the Jeep badge, the Patriot can be surprisingly deft on the trail, or in deep snow.
With chunky proportions that are boxy but not too refrigerator-like, and detailing that keeps it simple but purposeful, the 2012 Jeep Patriot somehow manages to play both of those angles; there's some softness and civility alright, but there's also some rugged Jeep appeal, and influences from the Wrangler and Liberty in the sheetmetal—along with the Jeep slotted grille. We're glad Jeep hasn't tried to change a thing about the exterior in the Patriot, as it's a design that's aging well. On the inside, it's a sturdy, attractive cabin from a few paces back, and some hints of brightwork added over the past couple of model years have spruced it up from the purely drab it had originally been, but there's still a lot of hard, dull plastic up close.
Jeep Projector Headlights are a stylish yet important way to replace your OEM headlights. Jeep Projector Headlights offer a fuller, more concentrated beam. Factory headlights have a tendency to “bleed” off to the side, causing unnecessary glare. Custom Jeep Halo Headlights aim the light where it’s supposed to go: towards the road ahead. Of course, drivers lust for distinctive style and few upgrades deliver that more than Jeep Halo Headlights, At CARiD, we carry a full line of the most stylish Jeep Headlights available from the finest manufacturers in the world. Take your pick of Crystal Clear Jeep Euro Headlights, Blue Projector Headlights, JDM Black, and much more. Each pair of Jeep Headlights we offer is also preassembled and ready for immediate “plug & play” installation!
Jeep Headlights at CARiD can be counted on for their superior level of quality. When we say the best designers are who we rely upon, we mean it! All of our Jeep Halo Headlights are guaranteed to enact a smooth, OEM-precise fit and are comprised of ultra-durable materials which far surpass the OEM headlights that were there before.
